How Archived Reddit Content Works

It is frustrating to click into a promising thread only to find a wall of missing posts or deleted comments. If you are trying to learn how to find deleted reddit posts or figure out how to see removed reddit posts, Archddit helps bridge the gap by pulling deleted posts/comments from public reddit archive.

Public crawlers save Reddit threads shortly after they are posted. That means when you are looking for how to read deleted reddit posts, you can simply type in the author's username to read what was originally written before it got taken down.

Deleted by User

The user chose to delete their own post or comment. Web crawlers saved the text before it was removed.

Removed by Moderator

A moderator or automated spam filter removed the submission from the subreddit feed.

Live Verification

Every search checks the current Reddit page to show whether the post is still live or gone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Archddit is short for Archived Reddit. It is a free reddit search tool that searches public reddit archive so you can view deleted posts, read removed comments, and find media that is no longer on Reddit.

Archddit pulls from public, third-party Reddit archive like Arctic Shift and PullPush. When you run a search, it queries those archives and checks Reddit's current API to see if the post is still active or already taken down.

Just enter any Reddit username into the search bar at the top of the page. Archddit will look through public archives and display their post and comment history, showing the original messages even if they were deleted later.

After your search results load, use the toolbar right above the list. You can switch between Posts and Comments, pick a specific subreddit from the dropdown, show only text, pictures, or videos, and type words in the search box to filter instantly.

Reddit stores video and audio on separate files. Some archive only managed to save the video part, which is why sound can sometimes be missing. For missing pictures, we try loading backups from the Wayback Machine, but if no crawler ever saved the photo, it cannot be recovered.

Web crawlers snapshot Reddit posts right after they go up. Upvote scores and comment counts show what was on the screen when the post was first archived, not the final numbers. Also, if a post was deleted seconds after publishing, crawlers may have missed it.

Every search checks four separate archive servers at the same time, then checks Reddit live servers to verify the current deletion status. Depending on how busy those archives are, it usually takes 2 to 5 seconds to get everything.

Open your Reddit profile and click on the Saved tab. If an old bookmarked post says [deleted] or [removed], find the author's username and search for it on Archddit to read the saved content.

Deleting a post removes it from Reddit's website and your personal profile. But because public web crawlers index content almost immediately, the post may still live in public archive databases unless you request its removal from those archives.

Archddit does not host its own database. It only searches external public archives like Arctic Shift and PullPush. To permanently remove your username or posts, you must submit a removal request directly to the maintainers of those archive projects.
